Trend Alert: Terrazzo

It started for me, I think, in Palm Springs at Modernism Week. We walked through the gorgeous Mesa Modern show house, and it was impossible not to notice: terrazzo flooring, everywhere.

And then I came home and saw an older piece highlighting the way Mandy Moore used Terrazzo in her home, and I knew there was a trend afoot.

Of course, just because something’s trendy doesn’t mean it’s new. Terrazzo as we know it dates back to 18th century venetian pavement.

With marble and stones set in concrete, it creates a beautiful mosaic effect but without the meticulous placement of each stone. Instead, terrazzo has a more uniform look because they mix the stones right in. It still, of course, creates beautiful art, just with a more random, uniform style than mosaic.

Most famously, terrazzo was used on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

And now, the modern iterations come in every form imaginable, from the monochrome terrazzo accent in a delightful moody shade:

But because we may not all be up for redoing the floors throughout our homes or retiling our bathrooms (especially with such a trendy material), I thought today I’d share some accent pieces that will help you grab on to the terrazzo trend—but with just a touch of the material.

This is the accent table that first made me want a touch of terrazzo in our home, but this is a shapely option that I also love. For a budget friendly option, this side table is also fab and would look so good on any patio.

If you want to try just a touch of the terrazzo look, you can’t go wrong with a hand soap dispenser (another option here) or even a cheeky dog dish!

I actually love this terrazzo pattern rug and am thinking it might work great in our closet when we someday get around to installing it. And, I just ordered this giant pot in pink for the monstera in my home office that’s growing like crazy! It comes in 4 different colors, so be sure to click and check them all out.
