The other day, I discussed some of the top trends I think we’re going to see in 2021. And one of the top ones that I saw a lot in 2020 and think we’ll continue to see this year is curves!
I’m talking arches in hallways, dome shaped lamps, and even curved sofas. After an era of midcentury-inspired straight lines, the trend is swinging more to 80s rounded shapes and curved silhouettes!
This is actually one of those trends I’m not 100% sure about for our house—I love my straight clean lines. While I wouldn’t personally build an arch into my home, I’m starting to come around to the idea of curves. We even incorporated arched mirrors into our guest bathroom refresh.
Next up, I just might buy a dome lamp!
Since this is a bonafide trend, today I’m sharing a roundup (lol) of rounded accents that I’ve seen lately. Plus, at the bottom of this post, you can shop the trend for yourself with some of the best rounded home accents—from arched cabinets to chairs that look like a hug.
Arches and Curves in Interior Design

Chris Loves Julia was really the first blogger I saw going all in on arches. During her initial walkthrough of the house, Julia kept pointing out places where they were going to add an arched opening—not to mention that giant arched window!
I was skeptical, but I think the way these arches are done looks great in their home, especially considering the “modern cottage” look they are going for!

Speaking of arches, how much do you want to be the kid who gets to sleep in this bunk bed?? The arch shape with the curtains makes for such a sweet, cozy hiding space.

Another kids space that I would be happy to inhabit, but how much fun are we having with the combination of arch + squiggly trim??

This DIY headboard (made of pool noodles!) proves that not all arches are built in, and furniture arches are welcome, too. (See below for more arched furniture!)

It’s not just arches’ turn to play, though! There are plenty of other rounded home accents happening right now, like the curved ends of this kitchen island.

And, finally, Jorden Ferney, queen of thrifting that she is, found this amazing squiggly table and turned it into a bar. Dreamy.

If you’re willing to splurge, this coffee table is incredible—combining an oval, an arch, and a sphere, it’s really emphasizing the round trend.
