Our Black Kitchen Plans: A Tuxedo Kitchen Remodel

Renovation

Yesterday, I shared a bunch of black kitchen inspiration, and I mentioned that I’m finally going to be sharing our actual plans. Well, here we are, having arrived at a new day, so I guess it’s time!

The only reason I feel comfortable sharing these plans is that everything is pretty much locked in, everything is ordered and some things are sitting in our home, eagerly awaiting install. And since we’re ready to go, that means I’m ready to share! Not that I don’t trust your opinion, but sometimes bold choices get questioned and we start spiraling—not so, this time (though please feel free not to give me any negative feedback).

Anyway, the considerations for our black kitchen were that (1) we get a wonderful amount of natural light, thanks to two massive windows, one of which is going to become a sliding glass door; (2) we have a lot of black going on in this house, and (3) I have a mild obsession with black + gold.

So, we’re headed into the deep! It’s black kitchen time!

The Selections and Plans for Our Black Kitchen

Now, remember, when we first started planning this kitchen, we were going to keep our island (already painted black) and its countertop (which was white quartz). Nonetheless, as soon as we walked into the countertop showroom, Dustin said he liked this white quartz with black veining. (I will remind you, we were there for black stone.)

Cut to him breaking the island countertop, and, welp, he’s getting his tuxedo look:

Sources: Pendant Light | Sconce | Black Countertops with Gold Veins | Black and White Countertops | Beverage Faucet | Full Size Faucet | Gold Handle Pulls | Wood Floors | Paint Colors: Sherwin Williams Greenblack, Sherwin Williams Iron Ore, Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter, Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee

It’s not the easiest to capture the vibe of a kitchen in a mood board, since so much of it ends up being custom cabinet elevations and the assorted details, but I did my best!

As you can see, we’re going to lean into the black, with a black cabinet color (SW Greenblack), and black quartz countertops which will also be our backsplash. The black counters actually have some subtle gold in them, which is perfect for me, of course. So we’re leaning into that with gold accents in the lighting and the pulls.

We’re keeping the black and gold faucet we got when we moved in (our faucet was broken), and adding an additional one for reverse osmosis water. And, finally, we’re bumping up the tuxedo with a white and black countertop on the island. I think it will be such a lovely contrast to all of the darkness we have going on here, and Dustin is happy that he’s getting the stone he picked!

Just for fun, I thought it would be fun to share an earlier version of the mood board, in which I experimented with another island option:

Also would have been beautiful, but we let Dustin win this round.

Our Kitchen Remodel Priorities

When we first started talking about reworking our kitchen (about 6 months ago), I made a list of each of our priorities, and I just found it! I thought it would be fun to share some of the special elements we’re including in this project.

  1. Glass Rinser
  2. Built-in Step Stool
  3. Built-in Trash Cans
  4. Reverse Osmosis System (we are on a well)
  5. Knives Off the Counter
  6. A Place for Dog Bowls

Black Kitchen Plans

So, there you have it, our black kitchen plans! I’d love to know your thoughts, and I can’t wait to share the final result soon!
