I know, I know, it’s been a long time since I talked about my home office. I’ve had it painted for months and months, but since I didn’t end up getting everything on my shopping list and there are still a few things I want to do, I haven’t felt confident sharing yet.
It just doesn’t feel “done” and I can’t quite put my finger on why. Maybe it’s because it’s been a catchall space for things waiting to find a home in our main bedroom. Maybe it’s because I realized I want crown moulding in here. Maybe I need more art, more plants (ha!), some grounding dark accents. I’m not sure, so I haven’t shared.
Until now, that is! I’ve decided just to show you how it is right now, because, even though it doesn’t feel “done,” it does feel really good. This room gets great light and has great, inspiring energy for me while I’m working.
Plus, I realized that I can always share more later when I update things!
If you see anything you need while you’re reading, just scroll to the end—I spent a while developing the full source list for you! (Of course, if there’s anything I missed, you can always comment or email me to ask: darcy@thecozyclarks.com.)
Where We Started
Before we dive in, let’s all remember where we came from. This room was a nursery for the former owners, but as soon as I saw the great light and nice floors in here, it was locked down that this would be my office (it’s also the smallest bedroom by far, so that helped too).

And here’s a roundup of the work I’ve done in this space so far:

Home Office Update Reveal
Here she is!

Paint really makes such a difference. See how the ceiling is just slightly pink? So lovely but not at all in your face—dreamy!
Obviously, if this was the final reveal, things would be a bit more styled out and I’d have dealt with those cords and that naked pinboard, but I’m honestly still loving this shot.
Floating Shelves

Here are those Ikea hack shelves all styled out with some fun pieces and some of my favorite business books!
File Cabinet

We had to keep a touch of practicality so this is a great spot for so many household papers. I stacked all of my design books on top to create a little plant perch for these lovelies that prefer indirect light.
Chair Corner
I’ve been trying both the pink and the grey chair in here, but when I asked everyone on Instagram, pink was the clear winner!

Here’s the grey just for the sake of comparison.

What’s Not Working
I’m not in a rush to do anything in this room since it’s working great for me right now, and, honestly, we have bigger fish to fry. But there are a couple things I really want to do when we have time:
First of all, I just don’t love the way the white wall runs into the pink ceiling. I want the ceiling to feel a little more complete, so I’m thinking of adding crown molding or something.
Second, my file cabinet is just not looking right against the white walls, so I’m thinking I might paint it. Maybe dark green or even black. I think a dark, grounding accent would be helpful.
Third, do you think I need a rug in here? What looks in the photos like the corner of a fur rug is actually a dog bed! I’ve been debating it on and off, thinking maybe even this one from Rifle Paper Co could work, but I just haven’t felt certain enough to order. I want to be sure I can still roll my chair so I don’t want something too big.
Finally, while my Ikea hack shelves are super sweet and make me very happy, this wall is missing something. Whether some kind of low storage credenza or a whole wall of shelves, I’m not sure but I know it needs something and more storage is always a good thing in an office.
Let me know in the comments: is this room missing something? If so…what is it??
