Happy Hour: Project Progress Update

Decorating, Happy Hour, Renovation

How are you doing? I know it’s a crazy time for all of us, but, for whatever reason, I’ve felt a lot more sane this week than I have in the past couple of weeks. Maybe it’s just getting home and back into a routine, or maybe it’s because we’re refocusing from the projects we can’t get done right now to those we actually can take on.

Either way, for my own sanity and yours, I wanted to share a quick run down of the updates we’re working on, where the progress is at, and what you can look forward to seeing more of.

This week, we’re going to do happy hour just a little differently. I’ll save up my inspiration and shopping ideas for next week, and instead share a quick progress update on the various areas of our home we’ve taken on.

It’s a good old fashioned project round up!

Of course, we’ll still start with a toast!

Toasting with…what’s your quarantini? So far, mine have been aperol spritzes or old fashioneds minus the fruit (since we don’t have cherries or oranges). For the old fashioned, I just put a sugar cube in a glass with a few dashes of bitters and muddle. Then I add some oversized ice cubes (I like 2) and top with my favorite bourbon. Cheers!

Completed Spaces:

Pantry: Done! Hooray! I owe you an update now that it’s stuffed to the gills, but here is the reveal when it was empty. (See our original inspiration here.)

My Home Office: All done as of this week! Reveal coming next week, but for now, here’s that office mood board again. I’m still probably going to add more decor once I can get out to the stores again. I have a vision of some little vases from Goodwill spray painted blush pink, and I also want to shop for more plants now that it’s getting warmer out. We’ll also likely add crown molding down the road—every queen needs a crown.

Spaces in Progress:

Master Bathroom: Paused! We have a stay at home order in MN, so we aren’t able to get the plumber and electrician in to work on our bathroom yet. The new walls are framed and everything is completely demoed for them to start working, so fingers crossed that’s soon! See our plans for this dreamy bathroom here.

Upstairs Bathroom: Moved up the list! Because we’re home with lots of DIY time (and I’ve been driven crazy enough by the yellow paint) we’re jumping in. We picked up the paint (Sherwin Williams has curbside pickup right now) but we’re waiting to paint until the mirrors ship so we only have to be without bathroom mirrors for a day or two.

Deck and Patio: We’ve made some plans and we’re starting to think about which items we want to do ourselves and which ones we’re going to hire out. To begin, I’m going to paint some outdoor rocking chairs we have, and Dustin and I are going to build a dining table for outside this weekend! Watch Instagram stories for more details on both of these projects.

Basement: We haven’t talked about the basement much on here, but Dustin is finishing a part of it (despite the super low ceilings) to have a video game living room and a home office in the basement. We’ve got new walls framed in, and Dustin is going to put in some electrical, but otherwise we’re on pause until we can get the insulation team in. Hopefully, they’ll be here April 13!

On the Back Burner:

Check out these spaces in our “before” photo tour.

Mudroom, laundry room and powder bath are on the back burner until the master closet and bathroom are done. Since you can walk through the powder bath and laundry to get to the master (it’s a funky layout), there’s been a lot of coming and going so we’re not refreshing these areas quite yet.

Guest bedroom and back bedroom: our deal was to focus on the main floor and my office first, and we ended up throwing in the upstairs bathroom during quarantine, but the rest of the upstairs isn’t a priority right now.

Kitchen, living, dining room: we’ve been testing different furniture arrangements, but otherwise these spaces aren’t our top priority at the moment—we find it’s important to have spaces that aren’t in transition to keep sane.

All this to say, you have plenty to look forward to! Which reveals are you most excited to see?
