This weekend, we sat down together and did everyone’s favorite thing: went over our budget. While we had a general budget set for our home renovation project, we really started digging in and itemizing in great detail.
So, needless to say, money is on my mind. We have a healthy budget but I’m always about mixing high and low—saving money in one place can mean nicer finishes in another, and I’m holding out for some nice finishes.
One place where I’m making a lot of changes is our ceilings, because I can’t stand boob lights. You know the ones—round flush mounts with an accent circle (nipple?) in the center.
I don’t know why anyone is still putting these in their homes when there are so many good looking, budget-friendly options for flush mounts out there.
To prove my point, I’m rounding up a bunch of flush mounts (& semi-flush mounts) that are only about $50. (Yes, seriously!)
Ready? Here we go:

Sources: Semi-Flush Mount with Glass Shade, Black Base, and Gold Accent ($30)| Farmhouse Vintage-Style Semi-Flush Mount ($32) | Industrial-Style Fixture with Gold Accent ($46) | Black Geometric Flush Mount ($31) | Brass and Clear Glass Semi-Flush Mount Globe Light ($46) | Schoolhouse Semi-Flush Mount with Clear Glass Shade ($57) | Semi-Flush Mount with Black Triangular Shade ($56) | Gold Mid-Century Modern Semi-Flush Mount Light with Glass Shade ($48) | Silver Semi-Flush Mount with Geometric Pattern Drum Shade ($60) | Black Low-Profile Flush Mount ($60) | Clear Glass Shade Semi-Flush Mount Light ($37) | Black Industrial Flush Mount with Silver Base ($57) | Silver Classic Flush Mount ($30)
By the way: None of these quite right? I’ve got more budget lighting over on Save vs. Splurge: Lighting Edition
Of course, when I start looking for budget-friendly lighting, I always start with Globe Electric (not a flush mount but I’m obsessed with this lamp of theirs—I just have to figure out where I could put it). And of course I love a good Gold Globe—we had one from West Elm in the City House, but I love the budget friendly version.
This drum shade reminded me of a Jonathan Adler flush mount I’ve been eyeing for years—but at a sixth (!) of the price. If you like the geometric look, but need something super low profile, this is a fun option.
And of course I had to share this industrial light since we already bought it for our pantry redo—I’m so impressed with it for only $32. I also really love this option for our laundry room, so I might be ordering it soon—I had been thinking white in there, but for that price I’m not sure I can pass it up.
What do you think? Let me know which one is your favorite in the comments!
